Italy to France over the Alps and back

Hi, I've seen the gondola rides beginning in France that end in Italy, but is it
possible to begin in Italy and do a round trip back to Italy?

Yes, it is on the Skyway Monte Bianco in Courmayeur. You would take the Skyway to Point Helbronner. From there you take the Panoramic Cable Car across to the Aiguille du Midi station and then take the gondola down to Chamonix. The Panoramic is open from 15 June to 29 September. To do a complete round trip costs about €210.

I have been on the cable cars from both Chamonix and Courmayeur but never crossed between them because on both occasions the connecting Panoramic was not running - once because it was late in the season and once when it was damaged by storms and closed for the season. By all means do the trip as the views are outstanding. If the weather is bad, don’t go because all you’ll see is the inside of clouds!

If you’re pressed for time, you can also take the bus back from Chamonix to Courmayeur. You’ll save time and a few bucks - but not worth enough to miss those fantastic views on the return trip. Make a day of it. Go up early in the morning, enjoy the views from the stations, take a few hours roaming the streets of Chamonix, take the cable cars back to Italy.
