Hello, We will be traveling in June-July for about 15 days. We are flying into Milan and out of Rome. We are thinking about Milan, Venice, Pescara, Abruzzi, Florence, to Rome, using the Rail pass. Do you have any advice for traveling with children?
Thank you!
Too may cities, with children even more so
We have been to Rome and are currently planning a trip to Milan, Florence, Tuscany and Cinque Terre for 21 days. On your trip I would suggest 2 days in Milan, 5-6 days in Florence and the balance in Rome. There is a ton of stuff to see and experience in Rome. I agree with the other post, you're planning too many cities. Also agree that the rail pass is not a good deal. You can buy train tickets at the rail station. Use the trenitalia site to figure out the costs.
I don't have children, but others can help you better if you list the ages of your children. I can advise you that rail passes are usually not a good value in Italy, and you can actually save a bit of money by buying point to point tickets on the Trenitalia website. Also, the inventory of rooms in hotels and b&b's in June is probably a bit limited already (& possibly for July too), so I would try to nail down your itinerary and hotel reservations asap.
We have 1 child he is 9 so I am not too concerned about him he is a good traveler. Thanks for any advice.
Remember that when you live in North America you lose 2 days for traveling to & from Europe. When you say 15 days are you including your travel days? I find it clearer to plan using # of nights, so assuming you have 15 nights your itinerary could look something like: Milan - 2 nights Venice - 4 nights Florence - 4 nights
Rome - 5 nights You really don't have time for Pescara or Abruzzi if you want to see all 4 big cities.
Thanks, we actually have family in Abruzzi/ Pescara, so we will definitely be going there :) Does anyone have advice for places to stay? Thanks again
Are you asking for lodging recommendations for all those cities? Do you have the RS Italy book? If not, it's where you should start, IMHO. Best wishes.
