My wife and I are backpacking for 23 days in Europe for our one yr anniversary & starting July 30th we will be in Italy for 8 nights & need some help trip planning ...
Our schedule is Venice/2,Rome/Vatican/2 and The Amalfi coast/3-4 nights.
I have excellent info (thanks to Steve's Best of Europe book for Venice & Rome) So I'm most concerned in planning for the Amalfi Coast.
Must see/do's are Pompeii,Vesuvius, the blue grotto, the scenic drive to Ravello,a good day hike along the coast and a relaxing beach for a few hours. Does anyone have any suggestions for a budget place to stay in Sorrento or Positano? Something w/ either a decent view or convenient location around $100-150/night? Also is it worth it to stay 1 of those nights in Capri?
Much appreciated, Justin
I'm going to be staying at hotel Nice in October, it's cheap and located near the train station. If you want cheap and a view, try hotel Elios.
Thanks Angela from "the couve!" (small world) Hotel Elios looks like exactly the type of place we're looking for.
No, I don't think you need to stay overnight on Capri. Sorrento is the most convenient home base and you'll probably appreciate being able to stay put for a few days. Try www.sorrentohotelmignon.com, near the cathedral, no sea view. Rick also has a snapshot guide for this region, which excerpted from the larger Italy book.
Hey Justin! Cheers for Portlandia. :-) I'll be staying in Sorrento two weeks from now. We're staying at http://www.villaelisasorrento.com/english/. I read dozens of excellent reviews and it's very affordable. Also close to busses and the train station. We wanted to stay on Capri as well but felt it was better to stay in one location and take day trips.
Hi Justin,
More greetings from Vantucky. :-)
We have been to the Amalfi Coast several times and the views are much better on the actual Amalfi coast side. We like to stay in Ravello at Punta Civita and will be staying there again this September. You absolutely cannot beat the views and it includes breakfast for 110 euros per night. Look it up on tripadvisor.
Agree you don't need to spend the night on Capri. You can catch the hydrofoil from Amalfi or Sorrento.
Enjoy!
