Italy/Switzerland itinerary???

We are planning a trip to Italy the first two weeks of June and would welcome any suggestions! Our group consists of 3 families—total of 13. 3 couples and 7 college kids. Planning to fly into Rome and settle in Florence/Tuscany region for home base. Looking at day trips to Sienna, Arezzo (antique festival) overnight in Cinque Terre… can’t decide what to do and spend a couple of days in Rome before heading up to Switzerland.
Are we crazy to try to tag that on the end?
Anyone seen the Dolomite region of Italy?? Ferarri factory in Modena?

since you have only two weeks, you really don't have time for the dolomites.

Florence and the surrounding area are very hot in the summer. Be sure your lodgings are air conditioned.

Planning to fly into Rome

From where do you fly home?

Have flights been purchased?

Presumably this is a first trip for everyone?

We traveled to Switzerland and the Dolomites with a family group of 8 last September. We had 16 days/q15 nights on the ground, including 2 nights at Lago di Garda en route between Luzern and the Dolomites. It was a great trip, mainly focused on hiking, but the travel time from Switzerland and the Dolomites mage it feel a bit rushed for those transfer days.

You need to choose between Switzerland or the Dolomites as you do not have time for both. And since both are in the opposite direction than Rome from Tuscany, it makes no sense to go to Rome after Tuscany, then head north. Book your flights into Rome and out of Venice (for the Dolomites) or Zurich (for Switzerland). Start with your time in Rome, then Tuscany, and then move north.

I would skip Cinque Terre entirely; it is not worth the hassle and travel time for one overnight. Or plan on 2-3 nights there and skip the northern mountain destination. I suggest the former, as it will not be easy to find good lodging options for that many people in the Cinque Terre villages at this late date.
