Hi We want to go on a 2 week trip to Italy and Spain during the last 2 weeks of July. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 kids (8,16). I'm looking for the optimum route from SFO as well as a rough itinerary. We like to explore cities and rural areas to the extent possible. Of course, we want to check out the major tourist stops as well.
I know 2 weeks may not be enough but would like to sample both countries so we can go back later. Thanks for your time. G

Two weeks for two huge countries not even close to each other? That's nearly impossible. You need at least 20 days. Spain in a week: Day 0: Leave: morning arrival Madrid-immediately go to Toledo via train night 1: Toledo day 1: Toledo-travel to Madrid late afternoon night 2: Madrid day 2: Madrid night 3: Madrid: day 3: train to Sevilla (2.5 hrs)- Sevilla night 3: Sevilla day 4: Sevilla night 4: Sevilla day 5: rental car trip to Granada via Andalucia (Ronda/Arcos) night 5: Granada day 6: Granada-return car (if not done night before)-Visit Alhambra night 6: Granada day 7: Fly to Italy (via Madrid)()
