I am travelling to Italy with my family late Sept - Early Oct. We would like to fly into Venice and fly out of Rome. We have 9 days not including travel days. We are looking for small village type touring as well as perhaps visiting some wineries and things like that. Can someone help me with a "sample itinerary" I would really appreciate any suggestions in order to get a good start planning our trip.
Nine days is not long. You'll need 2 days (3 nights allows for 2 full days) in Venice. I'd suggest at least 3 days (4 nights) in Rome. So you have 2-3 days left. Park yourselves in Montepulciano or Montalcino (Tuscany), get a car and have a blast. There are some great itineraries at the Slow Travel website. On this page is a piece about Montalcino, but scroll down and look at the options on the right for Southern Tuscany. Many beautiful ideas for day tours.

That's great advise. Thank you.
We spent 3 nights in Montalcino and had a great time. The first day we just wandered around the town, explored, and stopped at several Enoteca's for wine tasting. Day 2 we visited several wineries. There's a map you can pick up at the TI that has all the wineries with phone #'s and addresses. We had a great time at Mate'. We didn't meat the owners, but the wife is from Canada.
Montecino sounds like the place to go. Thanks for the info.
