Italy September 2022

So we were supposed to go to Italy in September 2020. Had it all planned out and then had to cancel. Thought about going September 2021 but then it didn't seem the right time. We are now again thinking about a plan for September 2022. In December I felt really good about it but now Omicron has come around. I feel like it's easing. We're not getting any younger. Should we make our plans? Hoping to just rebook what we had in September 2020 if that's still available. How do you feel about going this year?

I realize a new variant might come around and probably lots of changes in travel requirements before then. We will definitely buy travel insurance and have been vaccinated and boosted. I was boosted last September and it sounds like they're not recommending a fourth dose. I'm a worrier, so just trying to feel people out that are on the ground there.

Also want to start in Germany for a few days and visit our exchange student before coming to Italy. Thoughts?

Thanks for your help!

We cancelled trips in 2020 and 2021 as well, just like many others here.
We are going end of April and again in Sept and I have no intention of canceling either

I have always felt we’d be safer in Italy than here in many areas of the US. We had to fly domestically a few times last year and it was extremely stressful and risky

Same with us. We booked back-to-back Best of Italy and Best of South Italy tours in September and October. We are going this time! Not getting any younger and our travel years are coming to an end.

I did have the opportunity to travel to France for a month last October and trust me on this when I say I felt so much safer there than N. Idaho! I'm going back to France plus Belgium and Netherlands in April and restrictions seem to be dropping right and left. I have a Rick Steves Best of Italy tour planned for the end of September.

For months I've thought it was better to stay in one country and did that last Fall (pre-Omicron). Now, I am not worried about traveling to Western Europe and doing several countries.

I vote to go.

I have a trip planned for mid-September this year - Best of Tuscany with RS. I was worried about going as well and will continue to monitor what's going on. We are both vaccinated and boosted so I feel we should be ok. I'm looking into trip insurance as well for COVID but am finding it super overwhelming.

I don't know when a good time will be to go as it seems like every time we think the worst is over, something else pops up! I like how RS is handling his tours so I feel ok going this year. I think each response will be different but I am feeling somewhat comfortable this year, and I say you should go!

Seems like it's unanimous that we should go. Thank you for your input. I'm feeling that way too. I just turned 69 and my husband is 71, so no time to waste. We went to Utah and Arizona national parks and hiking last September. We loved it but I'm ready for the culture and fun of visiting Europe. My girlfriend is looking into the travel insurance as I make all the plans for accommodations and travel. It does seem overwhelming at times but we'll get through it.

Thanks again!

I'm 70 and have a ticket to Rome (frequent-flier miles so easy to change at no cost) booked for April 20. I have back-up frequent-flier flights scheduled in early June into Norway and Sweden in case something bad happens that affects the Italy trip. I hope the two Scandinavian flights will end up being canceled and I'll end up flying there from Italy in June.

This seems to me to be a year to plan something in the spring so if things slip, I won't be looking at late-fall weather (when I don't like to travel).

I'm planning a trip to Italy in my head, and bookmarking apartments and flights.
Haven't been since 2019.
At this point it's only a hopeful distant possibility; but I can book it all in one day if I need to and then.........go!

I'm a planner and don't like to do things at the last minute, so I'd like to get working on accommodations when we get back from the Caribbean in mid March. I like to travel in September when the weather is still fine and most children are back in school. Plus I like to be in Michigan over the summer. I'm going to meet with a person who plans Italy trips next weekend and if she's positive I'm going to start the planning!

Thanks for your insights!

I had a chat with my neighbors just this morning. I told them I'm going to Italy in 3 weeks. She said "aren't you afraid of getting Covid?" I said I think their precautions and vax rates are as good as here at home. She said "but the numbers are high there." Her hubby said, they're about the same here.

Anyway, I'm nearly finished with my planning. All my hotel reservations and car rental can be cancelled with 2-3 days notice. My first hotel (Venice) said that because of Covid, they have no penalty for last minute cancelation. My airline tickets are exchangeable for another destination within a year.
