Italy Rental Car

Want to pick up a rental car in Aosta Italy and drop off at a train station just outside of Rome and take train into Rome so to avoid driving a car in the city of Rome. Any suggestions as to drop off location and a good rental car company with pickup location in Aosta and drop off at train staion outside Rome Thanks

No personal experience, but a number of people recommend Europcar. They have an office in Aosta as well as one in Chiusi, which is on the main rail line between Florence and Rome, leaving you with about a two hour train ride into Rome. Not sure if they are at the train station, but taxi is an option between the office and rail station.

Of course, review the ins and outs of renting in Italy, some insurance is mandatory, most credit card insurances do not cover Italy and an IDP is required. Driving in Italy has it's own charms, speed cameras are popular as are ZTLs, read up on both.

Europcar at the airport is the only major company I could find in Aosta.
Chiusi is too far. You could return in Rome at the Via Tiburtina Europcar office, near the Tiburtina train station. It's very easy to get there since is near the freeway exit. Make sure you take a GPS. Alternatively, I would return the car at the airport before considering Chiusi. Both Fiumicino and. Ciampino airports are outside of the city and are very easy to drive to.

Any advice on renting a car in Milan to do some independent travel after our Rick Steves tour. We're mainly concerned about what insurance we need.

Europcar is great, but Kemwel, an affiliate company, has even better rates. I've used them on several occasions and just booked a week long rental for $259, unlimited mileage.
