Italy public transport strike Friday, 16 Sept.

Apparently there will be an 8-hour transport workers' strike sometime Friday protesting recent attacks and lack of safety. According to reports, widespread disruptions are likely to occur, although I couldn't find details. Since we arrive at Fiumicino Airport Friday afternoon, it should be interesting. Maybe the Leonardo Express train to Rome will still run. Hope so.

This one was not expected as last Friday’s rail strike was. Meanwhile, Rome’s city government has announced the next day on June 17 all trams buses and metro rides will be free in Rome.
Pretty good deal— if you can get to Rome.

Does this include taxis? On our trip in May, there was a train strike on one of our transit days. Trains in Lombardy were be on strike for 24 hours. Yikes! I was concerned and spent a lot of time worrying about it. Folks on the Forum, said it would be okay but I was leary. At the end of the day, it wasn't horrible. It didn't conform to my "vision" of a strike with angry picket lines and a total shutdown. It seemed kind of symbolic but reasonable. There were some trains especially at peak rush hour times. Nobody appeared to be stranded and we got where we needed to be without jumping through hoops. I have the feeling that there will be trains to take people back and forth to work on Friday. There will be a way for you to get out of the airport without terrible inconvenience. I think this is just part of the charm of Italy and everything will be okay. . Best of luck!

No, entrepreneurs do not strike because of someone's else problems.

The Leo Ex is guaranteed to run during strikes, either as a train or as substitute bus.

Thanks, Dario and CT. I am reassured that travel from FCO to downtown Rome won't be a significant problem.

I see now that public transport in Rome will be free Saturday, the 17th.

Yikes, I arrive this Friday, September 16. Info on the internet says all strikes are announced and I cannot find notice. They did say there was an announced strike on September 9. Perhaps, hopefully, there is confusion? I need to catch a train to Salerno around noontime.

The last conductor was assaulted on a local train 4 days ago, so the Unions asked and obtained to call for a strike on a short notice. This one will happen and most workers in local transit will take part in it, at the most it will last 4 hours instead of 8. They are negotiating.
