italy or spain in october?

Hi all, there are some great flight deals going on and my husband and I are hoping they last until tonight so we can get a trip booked. We've been to Italy once before (absolutely loved it!) in the spring and never to Spain. It seems like there may be a lot of food festivals in October in Italy which could be a lot of fun! I know this is greatly open-ended question but I'd like to know if anyone knows of anything else in particular to keep in mind when choosing our destination for an October trip?

October 12 in Spain is a big deal, it's the Dia de la Hispanidad. All of Spain celebrates the landing of Columbus in the new world with a lot of parades.

Id go to Spain. Start in Madrid, hit Toldeo, Seville, then the small hill towns (Ronda, etc), end up in Grenada.

Julie, late September early October is my favorite time of year here.

The 12th is a big day here, but it is the fiesta of Our Lady of the Pillar (Virgin del Pilar) and also the Dia de la Hispanidad.

While going south is an option, you could go north. Valladolid, Leon to Oviedo, across the coast Santander, Bilbao, Donostia, Pamplona and finishing Burgos and Madrid.
In the north there is some impressive Fall Foliage. In La Rioja, the countryside is on fire with the reds, oranges and yellows of the vines.

Well, the good deals to Italy were gone so we opted for Spain. Hoping we can go to Italy in Spring of 2017 for our 5 year anniversary. Either way it is a win, win! :) Now to get on to the trip planning. Thank you!

Julie, what kind of good airfare deal did you find, Wichita to Spain?

Yes, not as good as it was earlier, but since I never seem to be able to plan a trip unless I have tickets in hand, my husband made me click the purchase button. :)

I follow a few pages on Facebook, one is called Fare Deal Alert. There were flights as cheap as $500 starting last night, not out of Wichita, but out of some cities not too much bigger like Kansas City. The best price I saw for Madrid flights with reasonable flight schedules was about $850. Much longer layovers were down around $700.
