We are planning a week away in November.
We are undecided on whether to go to Bologna or Lisbon.
We are Italian Canadians and have been to Italy 4 times. Never in Bologna.
We don’t mind using wither Bologna or Lisbon as a base and taking a train ride somewhere else nearby.
Any suggestions on where to chose to go?
If you've been to Italy four times but never to Portugal go to Portugal. Lisbon is way more spectacular than Bologna and cheaper too.
We’ve been to Bologna twice, in mid-October, not quite November. It’s a foodie destination, and the food tour with Italian Days was a highlight, along with tortellini and lambrusco in local restaurants, as well as many other dishes. Strolling the many porticoes is a pretty unique anctivity, but those don’t guarantee that you won’t get wet if it rains. Others report making trips to the nearby Ferrari, Lamborghini, and or Ducati factories, but we haven’t seen those. Train up to Parma for a daytrip is an option.
Haven’t been to Portugal since a June trip ages ago, but want to go there again..
Been to both and have relatives in both.
If you’ve never been to Portugal that would be an opportunity to visit Portugal. I am sure that Lisbon and nearby locations (Sintra, Cascais) can keep you busy for a week. Evora and Obidos are also not far away. I also prefer the weather in Lisbon, any time of the year, compared to Bologna. Lisbon will be likely rainy in November (although Bologna will likely be too at the beginning of the month), but it will certainly be less cold than Bologna in November. Not that Bologna will appear cold to a Canadian, but Lisbon will likely be really mild.
Thank you for your feedback.. Very much appreciated.
I didn't realize that it rained a lot in Portugal in November. Nothing I hate more than rain on vacation.
So I will need to think about that
November and December are the rainiest months in Lisbon, however it depends on what you compare it to. Vancouver BC is way rainier than Lisbon.
You can actually compare weather between cities by using Weatherspark compare.
Maybe the last week of October is a better option
