Italy October '16 - city-city questions : )

My husband and I are travelling to Italy early Oct. this year and need advice! After we arrive in Venice we plan to look around the Dolomites for a few days. We want to get a car and drive there. Is it best to rent at Piazzale Roma or take a train a little further away and get a car? In this case, where!?? Also, after this part of the trip we want to get to Cinque Terra (Monterosso) from where we leave the car. I am assuming the best way is train but am wondering if anyone has good suggestions on best routes etc. Thank you!!!!!

Are you staying in Venice for a few days before renting a car? Or are you flying to Venice and going straight to the Dolomites?

If you are in Venice a few days before the Dolomites, rent at Piazzale Roma.
If you are going to the Dolomites immediately after landing, rent at the airport.

After the Dolomites, I would drive to the Cinque Terre and probably return the car at nearby La Spezia, unless you need the car afterwards. You won't need a car while visiting the Cinque Terre.

If you need the car after your Monterosso visit, then keep it parked in Monterosso. There is a parking lot near the beach.

Thanks Roberto! I hadn't really thought of taking the car after we finish in the Dolomites. We will be staying in Venice a few days before so Piazzale Roma sounds good. Do you recommend any specific route/s to La Spezia?
