Italy - November

We ( 4 travelers - 51, 53,70,77 years old) are traveling and planning to spend November in Italy. Only one has been to Italy before. We plan to fly into Venice and out of Rome. Please offer suggestions for an itinerary. We hope to stay in two or three different apartments along the way to use as home bases.
Thanks for all suggestions!

You can get from point A B C by train: venice train to florence train to rome

And you should always read some kind of guide book with and talk with the others traveling with you so to decide what you are collectively interested in seeing together with your time and money.

How many days are you staying? What are your interests? Do you just want cities? I did the Venice, Florence, Rome crawl in 2016, although that was not my first trip to Italy. I spend 15 nights there (plus the overnight flight). Give us some details and we might be able to help.

hey millie
what are your dates and how many days in venice and rome? will you be stopping in another city along the way, will you have a car or only public transportation, two bedrooms (double or single beds), costs in euros for hotels/apts, mobility issues (climbing steep stairs in old buildings with luggage), interests, day tours, likes and dislikes, wine drinkers. sounds like intrusion but these answers will help us for suggestions to offer you to enjoy

We also flew into Venice and out of Rome. Since you didn't specify your time frame, I'll just share what we did, though we traveled in May (not sure what the smaller areas will be like in Nov in terms of weather and what's open):

Venice: 2 nights
Cinque Terre (Monterosso as our base) -- 3 nights
Florence -- 4 nights
Tuscany -- 4 nights
Rome -- 4 nights

We used trains until we left Florence, since we wanted a car to get around the small towns of Tuscany. We dropped it as soon as we arrived in Rome. In hindsight, we wished we'd had more time in Tuscany and probably would've taken it out of Florence or Rome, as we fell in love with the countryside and loved the wine tasting (again, just a personal choice as others might have other thoughts). We also stayed in Airbnbs in the main cities, a small hotel in the CT, and an agriturismo in Tuscany (the latter two were recs from the RS book).

How long is your stay?

I believe the minimum is
2 nights for Venice
3 nights in Florence
5 nights in Rome

Take apartments very centrally located
For Rome near Fontana Nettuno, Trevi, Piazza di Spagna
for Florence, Palazzo Pitti, Piazza Santo Spirito, Duomo, Accademia
For Venice, Rialto or laguna or the islands, depending the time you want to dedicate to Venice, if you like nautics and countryside or are interested in city visits only.

In each of these cities, specially having some of you over 70, make sure you you do have a lift. For 4 persons, I would look into VRBO website as you would need an apartment large and comfortable enough.
If you have much time, from Florence you could go to many places in Tuscany, Fiesole, Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano, Val d’orcia, either renting a private driver, dividing the costs into 4 or by train or bus.

Thanks for the help... we were on another trip and just returned home … so now it is time to full speed ahead on Italy planning!

We are planning Italy in November. We plan to spend the entire month. Probably leave USA around the 1st and return around the 30th. So 30 days including travel days.

Fly into Venice and fly out of Rome. Hope to find apartments for the most part where we will stay and do day trips from our home bases.

We are wine and food lovers! In pretty good shape physically,,, would rather not do all walking though, bus tours . Want to immerse in the local culture, enjoy every aspect of life in Italy!

Thanks for any suggestions and insights into hidden jewels!!!
