Italy Mid March Amalfi coast vs Tuscany?

I am traveling to Italy - leaving March 10 to fly into Rome for 7 days with two friends. We have yet to book our itinerary. We were interested in the Amalfi coast, but I am concerned it may be too early to have much to do there? We do enjoy hiking, and good meals, and some sight seeing. Is there enough to do for 4 days there? We also plan to visit in Rome (which I have been to before), for the last 3 days.

Should we do the Amalfi coast another time?

No you should do in March when it is not crowded with people spoiling your photo opportunities or getting in your way hiking and sightseeing.I

thanks. I just wanted to make sure things are open in March! To add to my ask, I have Rick Steves book (from my first trip) and he says to stay in Positano, but is there enough open there in March? Or would you suggest Sorrento, due to more of a year round crowd?

Sorrento is not on the Amalfi Coast but a good transportation hub (ferries, trains, buses) that go North, South to the Amalfi Coast and West (to Capri).

As far as I can see the hotels are 76% booked in Positano the 2nd week of March according to just one source that I use booking.com.

Before you go research and contact every place thing you want to do or go to piecemeal that is recommended in a guide book to see if it is open; that is what I would do.

Could that be because not many hotels in Positano are open 2nd week of March? I was there at that precise time two years ago and it was still pretty buttoned up for the winter.

Sorrento's a different story, many hotels are open but I'll bet this late in the game they're at least 76% booked.

we are looking for a VRBO rental, and finding several to our taste, in Amalfi and in Sorrento. We are not looking for hotels, so I think we will be okay. Fingers crossed! We are going to book it very soon.

You might take a look at Ravello. Smaller and charming and the views are amazing. It's just up the hill from Amalfi. You can take a bus down to the ocean (Amalfi), or there is a great hike you can take, if you like exercise!
Also, if you like to hike, you could do the Path Of The Gods, which you can catch a bus in Amalfi to the start of the trail and end up in Positano. Be aware, you can catch a bus at a mid-way point of the Path, which I recommend! My husband and I walked the whole way to Positano, and thought our legs were going to give out! But what a reward to dine on the beach at the end!

thanks for the suggestions. We would love to stay in Amalfi directly, but concerned the smaller towns will be too quiet this time of year? We will definitely visit Ravello during the day, and absolutely plan to hike the Path of Gods. Thank you for your suggestions.
