Looking for Airbnb trip to Positano - do not need to stay in Positano but can be at any of the surrounding areas. Ideal: To be high up (not by the beach etc) as will be a retreat for writing - and within walking to the grocery store few restaurants - can take taxi to Positano when touring that town etc... ideal to sit in an outside garden with a view of the water etc... We both seniors, though healthy, prefer not to do the stars etc so will cab it. Any suggestions? Thank you so much!
I'm not an authority on sleeping in Positano, but be careful about non-stair access. There are very few auto roads in the town. It's also tedious to get around the AC, with or without a car. (I'm referring to lines for half-hourly SITA busses as well.) Rick (our host) has sometimes observed that Sorrento guests with two towns in mind for a daytrip should see Positano first, because when they take the bus home from Amalfi, it may simply NOT stop in Positano because every scrap of standing-room space is already occupied! Also note the going onward east from Amalfi requires a change to a second bus.
I'm not going to harangue you, but please remember how harmful AirBnB can be to local real estate markets.
You might consider cheaper, more accessible places, like perhaps Sant' Agata Sui Dui Golfi. Now, I value the fully-paved, 100% downhill walk from there to Sorrento, but steep hills can hurt toes and ankles. And it's not true that Sorrento is "like" Positano, which you have "specified." I love the views from Sant' Agata, but again, they're not "like" Positano.
There are posters who stay in the towns adjacent to Sorrento, for lower prices and maybe even a town beach. No experience, myself. This area books up heavily six to nine months in advance. Do not delay your decision-making.
With mobility issues I would certainly not visit Positano. Yes you can certainly visit the top one quarter of the town but there are no roads into the rest of the town it is all stairs or very steep roads. We stayed right down near the water and really enjoyed it but got tired of the long climb up to the bus stops. It appeared as all the deliveries to the stores and restaurants were by golf cart no vehicles seemed to be allowed down town.
You might consider Ravello instead
We stayed in Bomerano, above Amalfi, partly because it was the start of the walk of the gods. It didn’t have a view of the sea but ticked all the other boxes. It had a good bus service to & from Amalfi which seems be a transportation hub, Buses to Ravello or Positano but also ferries to any other towns. Buses can get very full but ferries always seemed to have room. The roads get very congested. We didn’t use taxis.
There were some other small towns in the area.
