Hi, We have planned a family holiday from 7 July - 14 July 2013. We arrive in Florence on the Sunday the 7th and have a few days to spare until we book into a little place in Lajatico - we are booked to stay in Lajatico for 4 nights from the 10th. My question is what to do for the 2 nights and 3 days prior to Lajatico. And what to do for the 5 days and 4 nights in Lajatico? We will be 6 adults all travelling together. I was thinking of going to Cinque Terre for the first 2 nights - but where to stay?? And what to do after that? Looking forward to some replies :)

If I understand correctly, it sounds like you're flying into Florence and then asking where you should go, planning to immediately leave Florence? That puzzles me. Why not spend the time enjoying Florence and the immediate surroundings? It looks like you're going to have a long flight and I would think some recovery time upon arrival might be nice. There's amazing art and architecture, wonderful restaurants, and charming walks in Florence. In addition to the major collections such as the Uffizi, Florence has wonderful smaller museums, like the Bargello (superb sculpture in a fascinating historical building), Museum of San Marco (world's best collection of Fra Angelico), Opificio della Pietre Dure (beautiful stone mosaic work, as well as Renaissance stone working tools), and the Palazzo Davanzati (15th C merchant's home). There are also evening concerts to enjoy in many of the churches. And Siena, Fiesole, and even Assisi are among the easy day trips from Florence by train or bus, should you want more variety.
