Italy itinerary / train from Milan to Florence??

Hi friends..

I am from Qatar and planning a visit to Italy with my wife and 3 year old daughter in June 2018 for 7 full days + 2 days (flying days). I am flying in and out of Milan, due to cheaper flights and so, not able to fly in and out of separate cities..

I know its bad planning trying to see everything in Italy and with a 3 year old in tow, I am trying to put together a memorable visit plan. What do you think about the below itinerary?

Day 0 - Reach Milan at night
Day 1 - Milan
Day 2 - Train from Milan to Florence
Day 3 - Florence
Day 4 - Florence
Day 5- Train from Florence to Rome
Day 6 - Rome
Day 7 - Rome
Day 7.5 - afternoon train from Rome to Milan with onward flight to Doha at 10:25 pm

When i went deeper into logistics and tried booking train tickets, noticed from the website (trenitalia) that there is just one train from Milan to Florence (its a Tuesday) on that day which starts from Milan Central at 7:30 am and reaches Florence SNM at 9:30 am. This is not a convenient timing and will there be other trains to Florence on that day?

I am skipping Pisa after reading some other posts in here, in order to spend more time in Florence..

Thanks for all your tips and advice in advance.

Cheers..
Basil

There is a lot more than one train a day from Milan to Florence. There is one train every hour, leaving at 20 minutes past the hour.
When in June were you looking? The train times change in early June, and the new times are not yet listed on the Trenitalia site ( http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en ). The times do not change much, assume they will be 95% the same as currently, and book when they are released, 2-3 months in advance.
For example (starting 10:00, Tuesday 15th May):

Depart 10:20 Milano Centrale, Arrive 11:59 Firenze S. M. Novella, Train Frecciarossa 9521, Price from 24.90 €
Depart 11:20 Milano Centrale, Arrive 12:59 Firenze S. M. Novella, Train Frecciarossa 9525, Price from 19.90 €
Depart 12:20 Milano Centrale, Arrive 13:59 Firenze S. M. Novella, Train Frecciarossa 9529, Price from 19.90 €
Depart 13:20 Milano Centrale, Arrive 14:59 Firenze S. M. Novella, Train Frecciarossa 9533. Price from 24.90 €
Depart 14:20 Milano Centrale, Arrive 15:59 Firenze S. M. Novella, Train Frecciarossa 9537, Price from 24.90 €

You did remember to use the correct Italian names for the stations when you did your search: "Milano Centrale and "Firenze S. M. Novella"?

16th June is after the timetable change, that is why no trains are showing (and it is a Saturday, not a Tuesday).
If you enter 2nd June, you get lots of trains. You will just have to wait a few weeks.
BTW, don't forget to enter a time as well as a date, it only shows times for a period of a few hours after your selected time, not for the whole day.

I shall check it once again. As someone said, the train schedule for those dates might not be open yet. How do you find the itinerary for a couple with a 3 year old?

Sorry, I don't understand that question. Its the same train for 1 person, a couple or for children ☺
According to the incomparable Man in Seat 61
here: https://www.seat61.com/Italy-trains.htm
and here: https://www.seat61.com/Europe-train-travel-with-children.htm

Child age limits: Trenitalia changed its child age limits in December 2012. On all trains, children under 4 go free with no ticket required, just bring them along. On regional trains, the old age limit still applies, children under 12 travel at the child rate. But now, on national trains children under 15 can travel at the child rate. National trains means Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca, InterCity, InterCity Notte (ICN) sleeper trains.

Basil, sorry for being dumb. I count 2 nights Milan, 3N Florence, 3N Rome. I would say that is doable. You don't want any more locations.
But how grumpy will your 3-year old be with a late arrival in Milan (I suppose Doha-time it won't be that late)?
June in Italy will be hot, but not by Doha standards.

Yes.. i had thought about her mood.. So, we hope to arrive in Milan at around 7:30 pm, clear immigration, customs and then check-in to the hotel and sleep off the night and start touring the next day in a leisurely pace..
