We are spending 2 wks in Italy. Flying into Rome, out of Venice. We have previously visited Cinque Terre, Portifino, Sienna, Florence, San G., Rome, Pisa, Orvieto, Cievita(?), and some other places. Many of these we'd like to revisit, but does anyone have any tips for places we shouldn't miss??? Thanks so much!
Before you leave Rome, you should take the train into Naples and do the Amalfi Coast to see Sorrento, Positano, Praiano, and Amalfi. You might reserve a driver so you can take in the spectacular scenery! Then take the ferry over for the day to Capri to hike the trails and see the Blue Grotto. The views on Capri and Amalfi are amazing. We were totally enamored with the area!
one of my favourite towns on the Amalfi coast is Ravello. If you get there, be sure to visit the gardens in Villa Rufolo (or is it Ruffolo) for a spectacular view.
There are some Palladian villas north of Venice worth visiting such as Villa Maser. You might also consider Cortina and other smaller towns in the Dolomites or if you're not into mountains, Treviso, the home of Benetton, is worth a day trip from Venice.
Sorrento is gorgeous! I would definitely visit here and also Pompei. Also, Siciliy is definitely an adventure.
