we are going to be landing in pisa and then hope to mess around that area then to cinque terra then finally up to como and departing from milan...we have ten days...should we focus on florence or sienna..should we use a rental car or train...

jim, to answer part of your question, travel by train is usually faster and more efficient. Travel by car is better suited for places that aren't easily accessed by public transport. With only ten days, it's a good idea not to try and fit too many destinations in. It would help to know how many days you plan on spending in the Cinque Terre, Como and Milan?

Here is how I would do it. Pisa - see the leaning tower and leave. Go to Florence. Florence - 3 days Cinque Terre - 3 days Como - 2 days Milan - 1 day.
