Italy Itinerary

I am planning a trip to Italy next fall. We are thinking about going to Tuscany (San Gimignano), Cinque Terre, Venice and then Rome (in that order). We'll have a car in San Gigignano but we're hoping to take the train for the rest of our trip. Can someone advise if this is a good itinerary for using the train. Also how many hours train ride between cities? Would be much appreciated.

Any specific reason for that order? Where will you be flying in/out of?

Where do you plan to fly in and out of? Have you been to Florence before? Train info is easy to find at Trenitalia website
a car is only recommended for Tuscan countryside and trains are the way to go for everything else but the order of your cities needs to be rearranged based on flights...

If you fly in and out of Milan or Venice, you can do a straighter (and cheaper) itinerary, ending in Rome. Your itinerary as stated will start you in the middle, go north and east, and then go south.

How many days will you be in Italy and how many do you plan in each location? As others have asked, it would help to know your flight plans.

If would help a lot if we knew where you were flying into and out of. Next, With a car, you can really see a lot of Tuscany. I suggest that you don't limit yourself to San Gimignano. Siena is nearby. Once you have completed your visit to Tuscany, you can actually drive to La Spezia and turn in your car there. Or, if you must turn it in in Tuscany, we would need to know where you will turn it in. If near San Gimignano, there is good bus service from San G. to Florence. Same bus service from Siena if you are near there. From Florence you take the train to the CT. About 3.5hr-4.0hr to the CT from Siena or San G. From the CT to Venice, it's about 6.0hrs with 1-2 train changes.
