We are spending two weeks in sicily first beginning in Catania and then are driving for the next five weeks in Italy. We would like some help apportioning our time. We don't have any pre set plans except to end in Como and then take a train to Basle. Any help or opinions would be welcomed.

More info would be helpful. Interests (art, food and wine, small town vs. big city, nature), time of year, etc.

So you have 5 extra weeks? The world (or at least Italy) is your oyster! Do you enjoy smaller towns or big cities? And do you like to hike? And what time of year are you going? I think people will have some great ideas for you but answers to those questions would help.
