Italy Itinerary

Hi Everyone,

I am planning a 8 day trip to Italy in early May. I fly in and out of Rome (have visited Rome before so not too fussed about spending much time here) and would love to visit the Amalfi Coast and hope to include Florence too. What would be your suggestions as to how to plan this please and for how long in each place? Hoping to get the train/bus everywhere so easy routes would be helpful. So far my ideas are from Rome to Sorrento (have a base here) and do day trips to Capri and Pompei. Then maybe move to Positano and do day trips to Amalfi and Ravello? Or should I just stick to being based in Sorrento? What other gems would you suggest I see here?
And then also the easiest way to get to Florence and things to do there please.

Thank you. I'm sooo excited about this trip!

How many NIGHTS will you actually have in Italy?
You’ll need to spend night before departure in Rome

We easily spent 9 nights in the Amalfi region.

We are taking a similar trip in July. We have 11 nights, and this is our first trip to Italy. We will be in Rome for 4 nights, Florence for 3 and Sorrento for 4 nights. We are flying from Toronto direct to Rome, and then from Naples to Toronto. It was the best we could do flight-wise. We have a transfer set up from Rome to Florence, with a stop in Orvieto. We will train to Naples, where a Mondo guide will pick us up for a visit to Pompeii, then dropping us off at our hotel in Sorrento. I hope the logistics work...Sorrento seems pretty central, and I don't like moving any more than we need to for our group of 6.

I would definitely choose one of the other, not Sorrento and Florence, but you could squeeze in a rushed stay at both if you want. Four nights would be needed in Sorrento to see Capri, Pompeii, and the Amalfi coast, each a different day trip. If you like a fast pace (and pack light!), you could do three nights Sorrento, then move to the Amalfi coast for two nights, then take ferry to Salerno/train to Florence. Will probably need to be in Rome the night before your flight, unless you have a late afternoon flight. Do clarify the number of nights and arrival/departure times.

Revised plan. I've decided to skip Florence and hopefully do that another time so I can focus more on AC. I was looking at ferries and cannot see any from Sorrento - Amalfi in May oddly. Am I not looking at the correct website? There are also none to get to Salerno - what would the next best way be (I'd rather not sit on a bus for 3 hours!)
