Italy in October

In October we'll are spending 3 days in Rome, 3 days in Sorrento and 2 days in Praiano with friends. They'll be heading back to Rome on 10/14 via the train from Sorrento - and we have to be in Bologna for business on 10/17 - any suggestions for the few days in between? Back to Rome, or Florence maybe?

Possibilities include Florence (three full days is a good time for a visit but travel time won't leave three full days) or Venice (magical and unique, if you haven't been, you should go). So much to see, so little time.
