Italy in Oct 2016 just got the tickets !!

Hello all, well I feel like I have been a stranger from this site and I have missed it so much.
We will be flying into Rome to visit the Vatican and then onto Tuscany for at least 5 days.
First I would like advise on where to stay close to the Vatican B&B is fine and will consider an hotel if less than 150.Euro. We stayed in a hotel some years ago but I forget the name. It had a rooftop where we had our breakfast and actually saw the dome of St Peters ( it was so close)

Have not read the new Rick Steves 2016 book yet for ideas of where to stay in Tuscany but I want a B&B farmhouse style. I do not need 5 star or want it for that matter.
The excitement has just begun..Can't wait to hear your views.
2nd Question. We fly out of Italy to Ireland and wonder if flying out of Florence makes more sense than driving back to Rome?

Depends on how you feel about the flight options. There are non-stops from Rome to Dublin on Aer Lingus, while all the flights I saw from either Florence or Pisa had a stop in London (sometimes even having to change airports) and were more expensive.

You don't have to drive back to Roma to fly out of Italy, just take the fast train and then the Leonardo Express to the airport. Trains run from Firenze every hour, and to the airport (FCO) every half hour or so. There may be a direct train from Firenze Santa Maria Novella to FCO, but it does not run as frequently.

Someone here will know if Pisa (or Firenze) is an option for flying to Ireland rather than going back to Roma.

I am looking at Ryan Air out of Pisa which would be perfect
As for a place to stay in Tuscany. I would love a farmhouse but we can't stay a full week and I think thats what most require but I could be wrong. There was one just outside of Montepulciano that I was interested in but only for 3 days.

Margaret,

One of my favorites and 45 min from Montepulcino is Borgo Rapale it
They do rent on a daily basis if available.
Have stayed here many times, and find it an amazing facility. Hosts are the best we have ever had. Check it out.
Their site has a ton of information.
