Italy in November Itinerary - Lodging Suggestions

Hi!

Looking for suggestions on neighborhoods to book our lodging in for our fast approaching November Italy trip.

Nov 3rd – Nov 17th

Nov 3rd - Arrive Milan at 9am

Train to Venice (2.5 hours)

Venice 2 nights stay

Nov 5th - Train from venice to bologna

Bologna 2 night stay w/ day tips to Modena

Nov 8th - Train from bologna to spello (3.5 hour train)

Nov 8th – 13th Use castle in spello as home base

Nov 13th - Train from spello to naples

Naples 3 night stay

Nov 16th - Train from naples to rome

1 night in Rome

Fly home out of Rome Nov 17th

If you are in Bologna for only two nights, you will have only one full day. How are you going to see both Bologna and Modena in that time? Any place you stay only two nights does not adapt well to day trips, so just enjoy the city you chose to stay in.

If you have never been to Rome, skip Naples and add those nights to Rome.

I love Spello and Umbria. Will you have a car? There are bus and train, but it is slow going in Umbria to see other towns. Best bets are Assisi, Perugia, and Spoleto unless you have a car.

In Venice, try Hotel Ca'Angeli. well-located, reasonable price. But it is late for making lodging reservations so you may not be able to be too picky.
