Where are the best places to visit Italy in early November?
Towns and cities of any size should have plenty to see. Lake, beach, and mountain resorts will all be dead. See general advice at http://www.ricksteves.com/europe/italy and http://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/trip-planning/timing-your-trip.
The time of the year has very little to do with your travel plans. In early Novemeber, it can be warm or cold, rainy or dry, sunny or cloudy. What is important is what you want to do and see--big cities, small towns, museums, churches, markets, countryside. Give the folks some ideas of what you are looking to experience and thay will be able to provide the information you are looking for.
I disagree! You don't want to go to Lake Como or the Cinque Terre in November. I WOULD however, go to Florence, and Rome in November. Maybe even Venice, but I'd do it first. I'd absolutely go to Sicily.
I'm going at the end of October thru early November. My itinerary is Sorrento, Orvieto, Assisi, Florence, Venice, and Milan. The great thing is you can find cheaper rooms off season (my budget is so tight it squeaks), and far fewer tourists. I'll just plan to dress appropriately and bring a small umbrella.
If you'll be in Sorrento, you might consider some time in Naples and a visit to Paestum (Greek Archaeological sites). I've not been to either place, but RS suggests Paestum is the best place to experience Greek Temples in Western Europe.
