We live in New York and will be going to italy May 1 -18, traveling trough Rome, Tuscany, CT, Parma and Venice. Is it warm at that time? Will it be colder in Parma and Venice? I'm thinking it should be around the same temp as NY, any comments? Love to pack light! Thanks
It should be warmer than New York. Parma won't likely be much cooler and Venice depends on the weather and wind.
We arrived in Florence on 5/21 last year and spent 6 days there. It was 70-ish with two really hot days. On our day trips to Assisi and Siena, it rained each day but the rain didn't last more than a few hours. We then went to the CT for 3 days and the weather couldn't have been more perfect except that the seas were rough and the ferry didn't run except for one day. We lucked out there. We then went to Venice at the very end of May and the weather there was warm but we did get caught in the worst rain of our trip on one of the 3 days. We would go back and do this again. We really missed the hot months of July and August. Hope this helps.
Early May is a wonderful time to travel in Italy.
It is warm and spring-like. Tuscany and Umbria are especially nice.
As always, pack clothes that you can layer if needed.
Check the weather sites just before you go. We were there last year in May, arriving on May 10th. It was hot most of time we were there. Our tour director said that it was in the 90's the day we arrived, and it seemed to pretty well stay near that level - my guess is 80's to 90's most days. She also told us that it was very cool the previous week. Ironically, it was hotter in the north (we arrived in Milan) than it was in Rome at the end of the trip. I guess it was about to cool down again.
