Italy in June

My husband and I in our mid 50s have the month of June for travel and we are deciding to spend it in Italy. We thought of being based in the Amalfi coast for a week or so because it sounds beautiful but I am reading that it is crazy busy there I guess even in June. Thoughts? Does anyone know about Bari? And how does one get a farmhouse? thanks

What a great way to spend June! I am going to throw out there that June in Italy gets pretty hot and sometimes places (hotels) grumble about turning on A/C. If you are thinking of doing a multi city trip, I would start South and work your way North. Happy travels!

Hi Anny, I have been to the Amalfi coast twice, stayed in Ravello both times. First time was a week in June the second time was in April. Yes it was more crowded in June, but not unbearable. We stayed in Punta Civita the first time and Villa San Cosma the second. Both are just outside of town and a nice reprieve from the crowds. As with other parts of Europe, the crowds dwindle by late afternoon. A week is a great amount of time to spend there. Enjoy!

Check out the festivities in Florence in June. June 24 is their Saint's Day and great stuff happening including a medieval soccer game - a local tour guide told me it's a hoot.

Bari itself is not a terrific destination, IMO, but the surrounding area is wonderful. There are lots of farmhouses ... they call them Masserias in Puglia. Many are very elegant, with swimming pools, which would be nice in June. We spent five days at one last October, Masseria Montenapoleone, and loved it ... wished we had longer. It was a short drive from all of the amazing towns in the Val d'Itria (Alberobello, Locorotondo, Ostuni) plus about 5 minutes from the seaside town of Torre Canne. You can find lots of masserias if you search Trip Advisor for Fasano Masserias (Fasano is a town near Bari). I think you would find a week in this part of Italy to be very interesting. On your way to your masseria you could also spend a couple of nights in nearby Matera, one of the most amazing places you'll ever see. Google Matera and Alberobello.
