Italy in July

I know it's hot in the summer and I don't expect ice cold a/c everywhere we go. If we book a room right on the Italian Riviera coast or up high over looking the coast and it doesn't have A/C, would that be a mistake? There are quite a few beautiful places that we've marked off our list because they didn't have air-conditioning.

Thanks, in advance, for your input.

I've rarely had AC at the beach houses I rented there since childhood through young adulthood. It was always breezy enough for me to survive.
However North Americans, especially from cooler latitudes, have lower tolerance for heat than we Italians do.

If you have a room with no a/c, be sure to close the blinds/shutters when you leave the room during the day, so the heat doesn't greet you when you return. I usually find nights without a/c are okay in Italy, especially near the coast or in the hills.
