Italy in February

Hi, We are going to Italy in Feb. 2011. We wanted to go to Cinque Terre for a couple of nights, as well as Sorrento, among others, but wanted to know if those places were so-called open at that time of year. Any info would be greatly appreciated, as we are trying to get things booked now. Thanks so much. Holly

It would never occur to me to go to either of those places in February. Can you tell us what you're hoping to find there? What kind of experiences you're hoping to have?

We were in CT in March. Fantastic. Cool, but warm for this Minnesotan for that time of the year!

We loved it. It wasn't crowded.

I wouldn't like it there if it was crowded. We felt like we got to see the real CT and spoke with many locals. Would relocate if it was like that year round!

Now, that said, we were at the Pirates for one of their first dinner services, so you might want to look into what you want to do and then search out whether that particular restaurant or attraction is open.

I believe the trails are open year round, but could be closed for rain wash outs?

We stayed with Martina Callo roomartina.com Loved it.

My vote? Any time of year you can go, GO!! But, if you can go off season alls the better!!!

Thanks for all the posts everyone! I can't go in the summer, plus really wouldn't want to be there in the height of tourist season. April/May would be ideal, but I am going to Austria for a ski trip the first week in feb., and since I have already paid the airfare to Europe, thought I would extend my stay, and I have always wanted to go to Italy. Really looking forward to less populated tourist areas, with great countryside and local color. CT seems so perfect, as well as Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. I have had people tell me that the hiking trail between the villages of CT are open year round, and someone said that it is closed in winter, so not sure which is right, or how to find out. I don't really care if everything is open, but just don't want it to be a total ghost town. Any other info is greatly appreciated! Thanks again to all. Holly
