Would like suggestions on where to stay in Italy. We are thinking of spending 1-2 weeks in Italy in December and would like some ideas. We are a family of 3 young adults 22-25, 2-early 50's and 2-80 year old adults. We would need at least 3 bedrooms. Does anyone have a personnel recommendation for a Villa? We would like a location with ease of access for day trips. We have no problem renting a car, thinking of somewhere in the Florence area. Please help! Thanks everyone
JoAnne
Would highly suggest you try Airbnb, but would it recommend you use a car to go in/out of Florence it's pretty crazy. A car is needed for Tuscany, though, so you may want to consider staying somewhere with train access into Florence or move partway through your trip.
I agree about AirBnB.com, but Booking.com has extensive listings for Tuscany. Your questions are a little general, so I'd suggest you read on this website for people that have had itinerary questions. Reading Rick Steves' Guides to Italy will also give you an idea of popular attractions. I like to stay maybe 4 nights doing day trips. And then we like to move on to another city-area. I'd hate to be so close to Venice and not see it.
As far as traveling with 7 people, renting vans is very expensive. I would suggest renting two compact cars so the young can go in one direction, and the older adults can go elsewhere. It'll work out cheaper and better for all.
Thanks Becky&David, my questions are to general. Except for the 3 younger adults the rest of us have been to Italy, our last trip we visited Venice, Florence and Rome. This trip we would like to rent a house/villa for all of us to stay and use this as a base for day trips. We are not sure if we should stay in the Tuscany area or Umbria. The younger group would like a home base where their are some evening entertainment. We all want to spend time in Cinque Terre and visit smaller towns. The younger group would like to be able to take the train and go off on their own. We are looking for suggestions on which area to base ourselves. The older adults would like to take day trips and meander through the area. Any suggestions?
