Hi,
My family of 7 are planning to visit Italy in December, from the old old reviews, it's raining season & sunlight of 5hrs a day. With the global warming, change of climate, anyone that can update me of the weather?
Thanks
Julia
Google °weather in Rome in December° and you'll find a list of sites with weather predictions, average rainfall, and hours of daylight. Daylight is closer to 9 hours a day.
On the shortest day of the year, sunrise is at 7.35 and sunset is at 4.42 in Rome. Go to wunderground.com to the trip planner section and you can get the historical data by day for weather in most locations (highs, lows, rain, etc.).
We traveled throughout Italy from Venice to Sorrento, for Dec 2011 before we moved here. The weather beat Portland, OR, St. Paul, MN, and Omaha, NE, the other places I have lived! Will it rain? Probably, but not all day and not every day. Daylight is surely more than 5 hours this far south! Think layers, merino wool, SmartWool socks, Gortex shoes, a fleece for layering + gloves, scarf, hat. I wore a lined microfiber raincoat (zip out lining) and was perfectly happy when layered correctly. Have alternative plans for days you want to be outside but the weather does not cooperate. When it is sunny, seize the day! The lack of crowds and heat more than make off-season travel a delight. Prices are better too, and from Dec 8 on you get to see Christmas lights everywhere.
Thanks Laurel for an informative response!
Its December in Europe. The weather will not be great but it should be better than Seattle weather. I was there a few years ago around Christmas. I actually needed a scarf and gloves. Easy to buy in Italy. I would except some rain and weather between 45-55 degrees.
