You may get some good suggestions here but I strongly suggest that you pick up a copy of the Rick Steves Italy book. It's loaded not only with lodging suggestions for those three cities (and more); it also has very helpful information about the various neighborhoods in those cities to help you pick the one that makes the most sense for you. And since "reasonable" means different things to different people, it will allow you to look at those places that fit your definition. It's also full of answers to questions that you won't even realize that you need to be asking. It will be the best money you spend on your vacation. Happy travels.

Jette, I most definitely agree with Michael's suggestion. The Italy Guidebook provides listings for good reliable hotels in various parts of each of the cities you'll be visiting. Also, you didn't provide any information on your criteria (price, comfort level, area) so it's difficult to make suggestions. A few hotels you could have a look at in the Guidebook or on Trip Advisor..... > Venice - Pensione Guerrato > Florence - Katti House > Rome - Hotel Sonya or Hotel Aberdeen Buon Viaggio!

Tky Ken. I am actually trying to help some friends. They have the Italy book but don't think they have even looked at it. Have been to Rome and Florence myself and stayed at hotels recommended by Rick and think it is the only way to go myself. Tks for your info - will check them out. Ciao

Hi Jette, In 2007, while on a RS Italy tour, our group stayed at 2 hotels in Venice, Locanda al Leon and Hotel Fontana, both close to San Marco. We were in L. al Leon. Very nice rooms, breakfast delivered to our room, Murano glass chandeliers in the bedroom. Our tourmates in Hotel Fontana also liked their rooms. Great locations. On our most recent trip to Venice we rented a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apt. between Rialto and San Marco, very serene, canal view, great landlords and no stairs. We stayed at Hotel California in Florence (I know, groan) and Hotel Sonya in Rome. All very good hotels, but on our 2nd trip to Rome we rented an apt. near Campo di Fiori. Feel free to PM me with any other questions. Sherry
