Italy, Greece, and croatia 4weeks +

hi!

i am traveling to Europe for 3 months, i am done planning for the 1 st month, 2nd month i would like to head on over to italy from Lyon, France. I have been to Florence, Venice, Rome, and Milan. I do not mind skipping those cities. I am trying to travel only by train and ferry with the eurail pass. i remember some trains do not accept the pass in italy. Does any one have any recommendation itinerary for italy , greece, and crotia? I am open to visiting any other countries between greece and croatia.

There are plenty of trains in Italy that accept the pass and just a few that don't; the faster departures will require a seat reservation before boarding; see more detail at http://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/trains/italy-rail-passes.

You can take ferries between Italy and Croatia (not covered by pass but 20% discount on SNAV) or between Italy and Greece (Superfast/Anek covered by pass). The only ferry route from Croatia to Greece is back through Italy. In Croatia, Split and Zagreb are served by train but Dubrovnik and most of the coastline are not. Trains from Zagreb to Thessaloniki take 22 hours with a connection at Belgrade; the portion through Macedonia is not covered by a Eurail pass, but that ticket would be cheap to buy in Zagreb or Belgrade.
