My wife and I are going to be in the Lake Garda area for a week in June and then plan to head to France to walk the Santiago de Compestella (begining at St John Pier de Port).
I have been trying to figure out how to get to Milan from Garda. Any suggestions?
My other option is a plane from Venice to Paris and then Paris to St John Pier de Port.
We were hoping to catch a Ryan Air plane in Milan to Lourdes, France. And then a train to St John Pier de Port.

It would help to know which town on Lake Garda you plan to stay?
In any case, transportation from Lake Garda to Milan is very easy! On the south end, there are rail stations at Peschiera and Desenzano. Sirmione is only accessbile via Bus or Taxi. If you're planning on staying in one of the towns on the north end such as Limone sul Garda or Malcesine, you can travel either via boat from Peschiera or Bus (boat would be my choice).
You may have already checked this website, but a flight from Bergamo to Lourdes looks like the quickest option. From Lourdes you can get to St. John Pied de Port via train and bus (~3.5 to 5 hours).
Dear Risk Steve's team, you asked which town we were staying in. We have a house booked with the rest of our family in the town of Garda.
Fast trains run both directions on the main line, about 1.25 hours from either Peschiera or Desenzano to either Milano Centrale or Venezia Mestre station, plus about another hour to connect to an airport (check which one your budget flight is using), plus time to reach the train from Garda. Will you have a car for that week, or rely on boats and buses around the lake?

Unless you have a car, you'll need to use boats or buses to travel from Garda to Peschiera to connect with the the trains (the boat schedules will be somewhat limited). If you connect with one of the direct (no changes) Freccia trains, travel time to Milano Centrale is 1H:08M. Check the Trenitalia website for details on all the solutions on that route.
