Italy First timer Itinerary Help

Hello,
My fiance and are finalizing our plans for our 2-week honeymoon to Italy in late April/early May. We tend to enjoy spending more time in each city and really enjoy it rather than rushing to check more places off our bucket list. However, I am wondering if should add in one more stop on our route possibly by only doing 2 nights in Venice and then 3 nights in Florence? I am not sure where would make sense to add geographically. We plan to use train/bus to get around so I know some of our days will be occupied by travel. My other thought was that we could do a day trip to Siena out of Florence and then maybe a day trip out of Rome if we weren't too exhausted by then. Also, I know that Sundays can be rough days for tourist activities so I marked those as we would love suggestions on tourist things that are open. I have not booked our train tickets yet but know we will lose a few hours on travel days.

Day 1: Arrive in Venice 9am (Sunday)
Day 2 stay Venice
Day 3 stay Venice
Day 4 stay Travel Venice to florence
Day 5 stay Florence
Day 6 stay Florence
Day 7 stay Florence (Sunday)
Day 8 travel florence to cinque, stay cinque
Day 9 stay cinque
Day 10 travel cinque to rome, stay rome
Day 11 stay Rome
Day 12 stay Rome
Day 13 stay Rome
Day 14 fly home (early am flight)

Personally, I'd take a day from Florence and add it to Venice. Your arrival day is only a partial - and you may be jet-lagged and tired - and only one full day doesn't leave you much time to acclimate and explore the city. I wouldn't add another overnight stop.

That would still leave you 3.5 days in Florence. We found plenty to do there over 5 nights but you certainly could do a day trip to Siena if 2.5 days of Florence were enough you both. You could always make that decision once you get there?

Thank you Kathy! I realized I had incorrectly typed our itinerary. We have 3 nights Venice, 4 florence which is what you were suggesting based on what I typed. Sounds like we should leave it as is

LOL, need a little more coffee this morning, Jeanna? :O)
Yep, looks like a very good itinerary so I'd leave it just as it is.

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! 💕

Your itinerary appears to be doable, but I would eliminate Le Cinque Terre. Although, traveling there in April/May could avoid the massive hordes of tourists.

Personally, I would add the time to to the other cities. You could: 1. travel to the islands of Burano, Murano, or Torcello while in Venice. 2. Add the time to Florence to take a day trip to Sienna or San Gimignano. 3. Add the days onto Roma since it is so immense and has so many sights to see.

You could save Le Cinque Terre for a second trip or never.

Buon viaggio,

Agree with Kathy that corrected itinerary looks good. Also agree with skipping the Cinque Terra. After the stress that comes with most weddings you'll probably want / need to take things at a pace that is not too rushed. Love long and prosper.

I would leave it just as is. I am one of the people who LOVE Cinque Terre! We are going back in May for our 6th time. Late April/early May is not that bad. It is very relaxing, especially early morning and evenings after day trippers go home. In between the hustle and bustle of Florence and Rome, it sounds perfect. Congratulations :)

We did almost the exact same trip in the same amount of time and it worked well for us. We also did a quick stop in Pisa to see the leaning tower on the trip between Florence and Cinque Terre. There is a luggage drop off at the train station so you can drop your bags and walk or taxi to the Field of Miracles area.

If you want to see Cinque Terre, then keep it in the trip, I don't think it will be so rushed that you should leave it out.
