Italy -

Traveling to Italy and need some assistance with itinerary, we're going for 17 days. Flying into Rome and out of Venice want to make a side trip to Crecchio but not sure if we should do that from Rome or from Amalfi Coast? Where can we view the train routes to determine what is feasible?

Our plan is
1 Travel Day
5 days in Rome
1 day Crecchio
3 days Amalfi Coast
4 days Florence
2 days Venice
1 Travel Day

You need to spend a couple of nights in Crecchio (pronounce: Krekkio) to make it worthwhile. It’s far by public transportation. If you rent a car in Rome, you might be able to get there in 2.5 hours and maybe do away with one night only. Then from there you can drive to the Amalfi Coast.

Obviously it can’t be done as a day trip from Rome. Even by car it would be a long day.

If you go by public transportation, the closest big town (also with train service) is Ortona. Then from Ortona you might be able to get another bus or a taxi.

I think Valadelphia is right. Crecchio is going to be tough. Check Prontobus for schedules, but it looks grim: probably a bus from Rome to Pescara and another bus to Ortona, which may be the closest bus stop. That would leave you with an 11-mile taxi trip, I think. Service seems extremely infrequent, and I don't know where the bus would drop you off in Ortona; sometimes the drop point isn't really in town. And is there a taxi in Ortona?

Check Trenitalia for the rail schedule to Chieti, which is about 25 miles from Crecchio (and that's not the fastest route, according to ViaMichelin).

Really, this looks very difficult to accomplish in one day without a rental car.

If you had to give up a day in Florence or Amalfi what would you give up?

Given your posted schedule above, I'd lose a day from Florence ONLY b/c 2 days in the Amalfi Coast is barely enough time to catch your breath before you turn around and shift again. That's just my travel preference, though. YMMV.
