The Deep South covers a lot of territory, what are you looking for? Offhand I would say Matera and a couple of places in Puglia. Will you have a car or use public transportation?

If you're thinking of Sicily, I had a great trip there last year at almost the same time. My VERY thorough trip report is here: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/sicily-palermo-caltanisetta-siracusa-taormina

"Louisiciliana"

There's a pizza chain in New York that started as a restaurant - Two Boots, so named because it drew inspiration from two boot-shaped places, Louisiana and Sicily. I see from their website that they've expanded as far as Los Angeles and Nashville: http://twoboots.com/

We now return to our regularly scheduled European travel advice.

Harold, actually it's not Sicily that is shaped like a boot. It's the Italian mainland.
Sicily is shaped like a triangle.

Roberto: You're right, of course. Blame it on too much of Two Boots Bayou Beast Pizza!
