Flying into Venice may 10 and flying out of Rome may 21. Original plan was to split time between Venice Florence Chianti and Rome. My husband brought up the idea of Croatia and once I started looking at pictures of plitvice lake I started trying to fit that into the plan. Trying to rent a car in Venice on day 3 afternoon ferry to Rovinj where we will spend the night then head out to plitvice in early morning for day trip. We will then return to rovinj for the night and take the morning ferry back to Venice from which we will drive to Florence by afternoon. Does this sound doable or should we just stick to Italy?
Croatia is indeed beautiful but if this is your first trip to Italy, I would stick to the plan you have. If you add the Rovinj trip in there, something else will have to go.
I agree. Rovinj itself is very nice, though touristy, and the interior of Istria is worth a visit, aside from all the other destinations in Croatia. I'm a big fan of Plitvice Lakes, but I'd definitely suggest waiting till you have time to see some of the other great Croatian destinations.
I agree with the others: stick with Italy this trip. Also, renting in Italy and driving to Croatia will probalby be forbidden by rental car contracts, and if it is allowed it will be very expensive.
You really need a week to devote to Croatia and then you won't see half of it.
I agree with Laurel, I spent a week in Croatia and it was not enough.
