My husband and I are planning an impromptu trip to Italy in the second week November-- we have about 8 nights and would like to do rome and florence and maybe tuscany/southern italy. any advice on the best itinerary would be very helpful. we are thinking 3 nights in rome, 2 nights in florence and the balance in another location. thanks!
Ushma, With such a short time frame, my suggestion would be to limit your trip to Rome and the north on this trip. One thing to keep in mind is that each time you change locations will require about half a day in travel and related times. You could for example: > Spend 4 nights in Rome with a day trip to Orvieto. > Spend 3 nights in Florence with a day trip to Siena (that leaves one "spare" day for travel days). An alternative would be to: > Spend 3 nights in Rome > Spend 2 nights in Florence > Spend 2 nights in Siena (the extra day would again be used for travel) I assume you'll be arriving and departing from Rome? Happy travels!
Siena is so pretty, it is well worth an overnight stay (or 2) rather than a daytrip. SoIi like Ken's second suggestion---3 nights Rome, 2 nights Florence, 2 nights Siena; add the 8th night to either Rome or Florence as you prefer (I'd do Rome.)
I would do 3-4 nights Rome and 4-5 nights Florence from Florence you can day trip to Siena
Siena is a good base also, depends on your interests
