Italy book content

I was reading the italy guidebook today snd in the Venice chapter Rick says he is going to talk about lodging in several areas, including by the train station. For the life of me, I can’t find the part that describes lodging by the train station. Is it missing? We have a 7ish AM flight on a Tuesday in May. What area would be easiest to get transport to Marco Polo airport? I thought the bus/shuttle near the train station would be economical snd fairly quick.

The bus leaves from the Piazzale Roma, as do taxis. It’s across the Grand Canal from the train station.

Santa Croce, plus it borders on San Polo. I’ve stayed in two places in Santa Croce, the Casa Caburlotto and the Casa Sant’Andrea. Both very reasonably priced.

The area on the same side of the Grand Canal as the train station but northeast of it is Cannaregio. The bus station area is Santa Croce.

Thank you. I just looked at the Casa Carabulatto. It is showing about $160 USD a night for a 2-twin room in May. Is that pretty typical for a place like that? I am a little concerned because it is “closed” from midnight until 6am an I will need to leave earlier than 6 for my flight home. Am I understanding it correctly that it will not work for me?

Apologies, I forgot about the curfew. You could probably arrange to be let out early, but I wouldn’t count on it. Casa Sant’Andrea’s front desk is open 24/7.

With a flight that early, why don’t you spend the last night at a hotel near the airport? Most will offer shuttle service to ensure you make your flight on time. Avoid the stress of leaving from Venice.

I’m sitting at Venice Marco Polo airport right now at 6 am, after having spent the night at the Best Western Titian Inn. We took the airport bus to the hotel (stop: Pinerolo) late yesterday afternoon. Both it and the vaporetto before it were crowded and chaotic. I’m glad we weren’t doing that in the wee hours, although it may have been less busy then. Also, it’s raining this morning, so we are happy with our decision. Being near the airport, the hotel is used to catering to early morning travellers. Breakfast was available from 4:30 am, and the hotel had a shuttle (for 15 Euros for 2 of us), which whisked us to the airport in less than 5 minutes. The airport bus also stops right by the hotel.

We were able to store our luggage yesterday at our Venice accommodation, so we could spend that day in Venice. If you can find a place that will store your luggage, then staying near the airport overnight might be a good option for you.

Thanks for those recommendations. I didn’t even think about moving to a hotel by the airport. That is a great plan. It will definitely relieve the stress.
