I ran across this article today. If true, it looks like Italy may begin opening up slowly in May.
Very good news Jane, thank you for posting.
However I wouldn’t expect them to open themselves to mass amounts of tourism quite yet. That part will get real interesting.
The article states that even after June no inter regional travel is allowed except for medical and official needs. So yeah, no international tourists yet. But it is a step toward normality which I am sure Italians will be happy about.
Italians will no longer have to stay locked inside except for their trips to the grocer and doctor and a few more stores will open. It is a long way to go yet before we can think about vacationing there.
Oh, Mark, we can think about it. {Sighs.}
Well, we can dream about travel. But that's s far as I will let myself go for now. (And I have had lots of dreams in the past couple weeks about travel -- all good, all happy.)
I will start thinking about travel when I feel the time is right. :-)
A good friend in Rome is eagerly awaiting the announcement on May 4 about the easing of the lockdown but I am not so hopeful. That being said, I do really hope things will change soon just like this article promises.
Our trip to Rome, Florence, Venice, and Lake Como June 15 - July 3rd is still “technically” alive as Lufthansa hasn’t cancelled anything and neither have any of our hotels (3 of 4 prepaid)
Magical thinking, I know, BUT STILL.......
