Italy beaches in September

Hello, We are traveling to Vernazza on Sep 16-18 and Positano on Sep 22-23. My question is whether we should bring swimsuits for the beach. I am thinking it may not be warm enough. We are each only bringing 1 backpack carry-on, so I don't want to be bringing extra stuff we won't need. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

At that point, the Mediterranean will have had the whole summer to warm up, so the water should be fine. We were in Vernazza in September and there were lots of people in the water. Positano would be even warmer.

Lauren, We made this trip and stayed with Guilano in Vernazza a few years ago. It was mid-September and the weather was hot during the day just cool in the evening. The sea water was warm and swimming was wonderful. In the evening I just wrapped a shawl around myself and my hiking pants and out to dinner we went. Dress is very casual as everyone is hiking. Have a great time and stay longer in Cinque if you can. We were there for 9 delightful days.

The water in both places will most likely be warm enough for swimming so I would take a bathing suit if you are inclined to want to go swimming. We were in the CT in Sept '09 & many people told us that the water was warm (we didn't go swimming but saw a lot of other people doing so). Have a great trip.

We were in Cinque Terre at that time, the weather and the water temperature were perfect for swimming. 2 good spots would be the beach in Monterosso and the rocks in the harbour in Manarola.
