Any recommendations on B&Bs to stay at in Rome and Venice?? Looking for good location (not too far from main attractions), safe, for 4 adults, hopefully between Euro 100-140/night/room. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Hi Christine.
Little Italy B&B is owned by the husband of a colleague of mine. Very affordable and convenient. Also, Cross-Pollinate and it associated hotel The Beehive are affordable and popular. Note Cross-Pollinate also has properties in Venice.
We also like apartments a lot. Have found them in Venice through VRBO.com and Booking.com for about your price per couple. In April we are renting this apartment in Venice for the first time.
Good luck!
I second the use of Cross-Pollinate.com. We have used them in Venice, Rome, Florence and Barcelona and liked all the places where we stayed.
We always stay at the B&B Armonio All' Opera on Via Viminale across the street from the Roma Opera House. We began staying there in 2009 when it was recently opened. The owner is a young man named Paolo, he speaks English, and this property is really nice.
We will be staying here again in May, 2014 when we return for our annual pilgrimage.
Buon viaggio,
Christine, I suggest you look at Suites Piazza del Popolo. This is a small bed and breakfast that is actually in a converted condo. You will have your own key to the building, the condo, and your own room. There is a shared dining room, plus a smaller room with a computer. The owners invited us to use the cold drinks in the kitchen fridge or to enjoy the espresso machine. The rooms are large, immaculately clean, and beautifully furnished. Located on the Via Flaminia, it is across the street from the Borghese Gardens and a short walk to the Tiber River. You can easily stroll to the transportation center at the Piazza del Popolo, or catch the tram that runs right past the building. There are a number of neighborhood restaurants. We enjoyed being a short distance outside the tourist district. There are many reviews of Suites Piazza del Popolo on TripAdviser. Feel free to write if you have questions.
Christine,
In Venice, we stayed at B&B La Chicca, located in Dorsoduro, in between the Accademia and the Peggy Guggenheim. Slightly over your budget (we paid Euro 150/night) but the room was huge, a short distance from a vaporetto stop, but in a quiet area. The cappuccino's for breakfast were some of the best I've had. Would definitely go back there.
In Venice, you might try B&B 3C near St. Mark's Square. Never stayed there personally because we had to cancel our trip in 2012 and when I re-scheduled for this year I decided on a different B&B with a canal view (more than €140/night) but 3C is rated highly on Trip Advisor and my communication with them was always good; they responded quickly to my e-mails and were very nice.
For Venice, I can highly recommend both Pensione Guerrato and Casa Rezzonico.
