Italy and Prague 17 day itinerary help

Hello, my husband and I are 30 years old and are planning a trip to Italy and Prague late September-early October 2018.

We do not enjoy spending our time in museums. We do not mind traveling in between many places- so we might travel at a bit of a faster pace than many others.

What we enjoy: Culture/ambiance of new cities- just wandering around and enjoying the sights, food, wine tasting, fun tours and adventure tours (but not too intense- we aren’t skilled hikers or climbers or anything like that), entertainment like local music, dance, etc.

Here is the current draft of an itinerary I’ve come up with so far (below). I’m looking for advice, suggestions, what to cut out/add in/lengthen or shorten, transportation suggestions in between places, accommodation suggestions etc. please advise kindly! Thank you so much, in advance!

*Day 1: Milan (Arrive, sleep—> Lake Como)

*Days 2-3: Lake Como (sleep in Varenna)

*Days 4-5/6: Cinque Terre (sleep in Vernazza)

?Bologna?

*Days 6/7-11/12: Florence and Chianti+Sienna for 5/6 Days??

*Day trips to Chianti or Siena or actually stay in one of these regions? I like the idea of staying in a beautiful and slower pace Tuscan town if it’s possible
(Chianti)
(Sienna- southern sienna?)

-Day 13 travel to Rome-

*2 Days in Rome (not a huge fan but my husband and I want to see some of the major sites and walk around)

—Rome to Prague (2 hour flight)—
*Prague 3/4 Days

*Rome —> Home

I gather you plan to fly into Milan and out of Rome.?

If you cannot fly home from Prague, then I think it would make more sense to go to Prague first, then come back and do your Italy travels and end in Rome.

That 2 hr flight between Rome/Prague is going to burn around 6hrs when you factor in the time getting from hotel to airport, fly and airport to hotel at the other end.

Is it possible to get flights that let you start in Rome, work north, fly Milan to Prague and home from there. Or start in Prague and end in Rome. Thus eliminating was looks like a lot of wasted time flying Rome'Prague round trip just to get a flight from Rome

what you have is fine.
Bologna is maybe forcing it. perhaps make decisions when you get there;
maybe fly into Rome work your way north then fly to Prague from Milan;
the flight costs may or may not influence the way you choose.

Joe- We checked flights from the US to Prague and from Prague to US etc... it is significantly more time waisted to do that (the flights are much longer- meaning instead of 12 hour direct flight from LAX to Milan or Rome we have about a day or 22 hours due to layovers. So technically we are waisting more time that way).

Rick Steves recommends doing Milan to Lake Como etc almost as we have it, but looking at trains and buses I'm wondering if we are going to be a bit exhausted taking 2=5 hour bus rides every 3 days.

What would you recommend based on what we have so far in regards to the best travel itinerary in between places?

Okay after more deliberation maybe this is a better idea (still not sure if it’s the best arrangement for shortest travel times):

Please advise. Sorry for the changes.

Start in Rome: 3 Days
Florence: 2 Days (rent car to drive Tuscany)
Tuscany countryside: (***where do you recommend staying) 3 Days
Cinque Terre: 3 Days
(Milan in between CT and Prague for ease of transit)—this seems to be 4 hours for train to Milan and then 1.5 hour flight to Prague. I can’t figure out a different arrangement that allows for Cinque Terre and Prague that is faster or more convenient, can you?
Prague: 4 Days

Looking back over CT I really want to keep it in the plans. I still have no interest in Milan but it seems like the easiest way to get to Prague. Maybe there’s an option I’m not thinking of in terms of order of places to get to Prague more easily after Tuscany/Cinque Terre. We could take a train/bus to Milan and then the short and cheap flight from Milan to Prague. I understand it will become a Travel day, but it will follow 3 full days in Cinque Terre and be prior to 4 Days in Prague so I think we’re okay with that- unless there’s a better alternative. I look forward to your opinions!

Next step is any recommendations on areas/specific accommodation recommendations :)!
