Italy and Eastern Mediterranean Itinerary--advice.

So...this is my second trip to Europe, but my first to the Mediterranean, so I would LOVE any advice on this potential itinerary I will be taking this summer.

three nights Venice

Early train to Floorence

four nights florence (with day trip to see freinds in Assisi)

Journey to Pisa (one or two days) via Pistoia, Lucca, Montelupo-Capraia

One night Pisa

Three nights Cinque Terre (Manarola)

Train (costal route) to Rome

Three nights Rome

Train to Naples

Two nights Naples
(Daytrips to Capri, Pompeii)

Two nights Sorrento

Train to Bari or Brindisi

overnight ferrey to Patras

Day trip to Olympia?

One night patras

Early train to Athens

2 nights Athens

Ferrey to Naxos

3 nights Naxos

(Day trip to Santorini)

Ferrey to Samos

One night Samos

Travel to Izmir via Ephesus

One night Izmir

Night train to Eskesehir

Train to Istanbul

Three nights Istanbul

I see you show 2 nights in Naples and 2 in Sorrento. I would skip Naples and do 4 nights in Sorrento. Do Capri and Pompeii from Sorrento. We did this and it was very easy. Sorrento is lovely.

Also, Patras round trip to Olympia is 3 hours.

No reason to give up Naples, especially if you want to visit the Archeological Museum. You can daytrip to Capri from Naples and leave the Amalfi Coast for one of your days in Sorrento.
