Hi I'm going to Italy April to May. Do I need a special item in order to charge my iPad and iPhone?
thanks for any help.
Assuming that you live in the US.
The wall plugs in Italy are different than the ones that we are used to. So you have to get an adapter to fit the plug. Then plug your charger into the adapter. My understanding is that iPads and iPhones don't need a special power convertor. Some of your other electrical appliances, such as hair dryers, will probably need a convertor in addition to the adapter. REI.com has an excellent article explaining all of this.
wini,
All current iPhone / iPad charger are designed to work on a voltage range of 100-240 VAC, ~50/60 Hz. Therefore all you'll need is a Plug Adaptor like this - https://www.walmart.com/ip/6X-USA-US-to-EU-Europe-Travel-Power-Adapter-Converter-Wall-Plug/28881017
I'd suggest packing along a couple, as they're small and easily misplaced. If you'll be travelling with any other appliances, the situation may differ.
I assume you've researched costs of cellular service in Europe, either using your home network or buying local SIM's?
If all you have to charge is your iPad and iPhone, leave your chargers at home and get one of these:
It comes with an adapter that will work in Italy. The 1A is for your phone, the 2.4A is for the Ipad.
You still need to bring the charging cables.
Thanks so much. I'll get on it now.
Thank you all for the info. I'm in the process of finding out about phone and on-line coverage while in Italy. So exciting to me to be going there.
If you have T-Mobile, international texting and data is included in what you already pay. I belong to them and am so excited since I'll be in Italy in April.
Have a great italy time.; I expect to. I have ATT so will have to find out what my coverage is.
Lived in Italy the past 3 years and had no issues charging Apple products using just the 200v (two post) adapter.
If you plan to rent a car -- take a car charger for your iPhone with you! Learned this the hard way when the iphone we were using to navigate died one late evening as we were trying to find our way back to our B&B in Tuscany. :)
Thank you for all the suggestions. I appreciate all of them.
