Italy Airport to Central Rome

I'm looking for recommendations on the following 2 travel questions. I'm hoping to get first hand experience and opinions/recommendations. What has been your experience?

  1. Getting from Rome Fiumicino airport "Leonardo da Vinci" to Central Rome. Specifically I'm considering Hotel Smeraldo.
  2. How to get from hotel to the Port of Civitavecchia cruise terminal.

2 adults Arriving on a Monday morning at 8:00 am. Departing on Thursday mid morning for cruise port.

I've also posted on the Italy "Transportation" Travel Forum.

To get from the Airport to your hotel, it would either be the Leonardo express to Termini Station, then Metro or bus to close to your hotel, or a cab. Total cost would be something in the range of 30 to 40 euro.

For 45 euro, you can get a fixed rate cab from the taxi rank, that would take you directly to your hotel. If you are not familiar with Rome, that would be a costlier, but better option.

To the port, get yourself to Termini Station (Cab or public transport) and there are direct trains to Civitavecchia, and probably well signed routes to the port.

I am probably the victim of varying information on the internet. I see references for 45, 48 and 50 euro, the Airport site says 50 so lets go with that, by the time any of us get there it may be 55.

But for the OP, being unfamiliar with Rome, why not splurge a little bit and take a cab.

Myself, I usually take the FL1 for 8 euro or so and a tram to my hotel, walking about three blocks.

1: take a taxi from the airport (taxi stand in front of each terminal). 50 euro flat fee.
2. Private car/driver from Hotel (probably about 150 euro). If you want to save you can go to Civitavecchia by train then walk about 1km from station to port.

We always take a cab-so simple

OP
Be sure to go to official taxi rank outside terminal
Do not go with anyone offering a cab before that

Hand the driver your hotel address on slip of paper and the 50 euros-no tip necessary

Sit back and enjoy the ride!

You might ask your hotel for driver recommendations to the port

For the old style RS traveler, this is an option. Ticket to Roma Trastevere then the # 8 Tram from the street (not the # 3 parked in the circle) to Arenula/Cairoli and walk from there. Trams are now "tap" and go with your credit card.

I fit the "old" pretty well, even "old style RS traveler", but it is mostly referred to as cheap.
