How much travel time time and airport arrival time should I allow from Monterosso to Milan? My flight is at 1240 in Milan, and I was planning on staying in Monterosso the night before. Thanks!
Kelly, This is the most reasonable solution I can find on that route: > Depart Monterosso at 05:19, arrive Milano Centrale at 08:20 > Depart Milano CE at 08:30, arrive Milano Cadorna at 08:40 (this leg will be via Metro - it's listed as "Urbano"). > Depart Milano Cadorna at 08:58, arrive Malpensa Aeroporto at 09:27 That leaves you about three hours prior to your flight, which should be adequate, however it might be prudent to verify whether any Scioperi (Strikes) are planned on the day you'll be travelling. There's another departure at the same time with only one change, but it has a longer layover at Milano Centrale and arrives at the airport at 10:17 (not sure if that will be enough time?). You can check all the train details on the Trenitalia website. You should be able to buy tickets for your entire route at the station in Monterosso. When you enter the door, the ticket windows are on your left. Cheers!
While Ken's plan looks good on paper, it sounds like any delay along the way has the potential to cause you to miss your flight. If you have more than a carry-on bag it can take longer to make connections, too. It's more connections than I would be comfortable with. If it were me, I'd give up the evening in Monterosso for the peace of mind of being in Milan overnight. Food for thought.
Thanks so much for the advice. I am going with the peace of mind and staying in Milan our last night. I just found a triple at one of Rick's recommendations.
