What type of adapter do you need to safely charge a IPhone in Italy?
Type C (2 round pins, no ground). This is equivalent to Type A in America
or also
Type L (3 round pins, the 1 round pin in the middle is the ground). This is the equivalent of Type B in America.
However Type L will need an outlet with 3 holes. If the outlet has only 2, then only Type C will work.
Type C will work in both type C outlets (2 round holes) and Type L outlets (3 round holes).
Therefore stick to type C
This is the one i used for Italy:

Hello tapdcr, and welcome to the forum,
The good news is that USB is USB so either the USB A or USB C connectors on trains and other places will work fine with your existing US cables.
You can also buy electrical socket Type C connectors that convert to multiple USB plugs which I've found really useful versus just converting your American USB connectors.

Have a great trip,

I also pack an extension cord like the one below.
At some hotel rooms (not only in Italy) the available outlets are far from the bed. That is especially recommended if anybody in your party suffers from sleeping apnea and needs to use a CPAP machine at night.
